Born: 24 May 1973

Peter Heine Nielsen entered the Danish elite in the early nineties winning the GM title in 1994 and winning bronze medal on board 3 at the Olympiad in Moscow the same year.

After finishing his education in 1997 he has been professional chess player. In 1997 he played the Las Vegas FIDE world championship winning against Joel Benjamin in the first round, losing to Judit Polgar in the second round.

2001 have been a great year for Peter Heine winning the Danish Championship for the 3rd time followed by winning the North Sea Cup in Esbjerg tied with European Champion Emil Sutovsky and tied for first in the Politiken Cup in Copenhagen and also tied for first with Ivan Sokolov in The Johann Thorir Jonsson Memorial on Iceland. On the FIDE October 2001 ranking Peter Heine is number 60 for the first time the highest rated Dane. On the next list January 2002 he will most likely be even higher ranked. Later this year Peter Heine for the second time plays in the FIDE World Championship this year been played in Moscow.

Peter Heine Nielsen comes from Aarhus but is now playing for the Danish Team Champions Helsinge chess club and playing in the German Bundesliga for Wattenscheid.

He was co-author of the book "The Sicilian Accelerated Dragon" together with Carsten Hansen.
